Kensington Regeneration in partnership with Ephrata Bethlehem Church alos in Kensington, wanted to significantly mark the International Day Against Violence towards Women. Many of the congregation at Ephrata Bethlehem Church have witnessed and been affected by war, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and have experienced the horrific violence towards many people including Women and Children. They felt strongly that inplaces of war, people and the environment suffer, and that the empowerement of women and children was key in beginning to reduce the suffering and to make political , social and environmental change for the better.
To mark the day, an event was held in Frontline Church in Wavertree to highlight to local people the reality and widespread incidents of violnec towards women, both in Liverpoool and internationally. Speakers talked of thier experiences working with organisations supprting such victims, and how people can get involved politically to campaign against this and support charirties trying to help people who have and still suffer.
A women’s group also were encouraged to organise a workshop for women to get together and share their experiences in a supportive environment. Local alternative health practitioner Yvonne Matthews, worked with the group talking about natural remedies and their health and environmental benefits. The group were shown how to make simple hand creams and balms and skills in hand massage.
Ephrata Bethlehem church are working with Faiths4Change on a second project in the grounds of their church in Kensington, to develop some land which can be used as a place for people to enjoy the outdoors and fellowship together.
