ST ANNE'S GARDEN PARTY
To celebrate the completion of the first phase of the improved church grounds a garden party and coffee morning was held recently at St Anne’s United Reformed Church. The newly planted Wildlife Garden, made possible through a Development Fund grant from Faiths4Change, was officially opened by Michael Jack, MP for Fylde. The garden had been many months in the planning and was the result of much hard work by members of the church Ecology Group to raise funding, awareness and carry out the practical work to transform the area into a haven for wildlife. Within minutes of the opening a robin could be seen hopping around the garden, undisturbed by the crowds of visitors who had gathered.Following a short tour of the newly opened garden all the visitors were greatful to be able to get indoors for a nice cup of tea and a scone. Stalls were also set up selling plants, fair trade products and home made cakes to raise funds for further work in the grounds.Encouraged by the success of this project the Ecology Group now plan further improvements to the church grounds including a new vegetable patch to be looked after by the Sunday School children. Discussions are also underway about the potential to host a Sustainability Audit training session later in the year.
